Why Golf Is Becoming a Social Sport Again

Golf has always been a social sport. Whether it’s a weekend round with friends, a fourball with colleagues or a regular game with your golf group, time on the course has always been about more than just the scorecard.

What is changing is the number of ways people can enjoy golf. Alongside traditional rounds of golf, driving ranges, Par 3 courses and adventure golf are helping introduce the sport to a new generation and making it easier to enjoy golf with friends and family.

Golf Is About More Than Your Score

While improving your handicap can be a big part of the enjoyment, golf is also about the experience.

A round with friends gives you time to catch up, enjoy some friendly competition and spend time outdoors. Even a practice session at the driving range can become a social occasion, with friends challenging each other to longest drives or nearest-the-pin competitions.

At 3 Hammers, our Inrange technology adds another element to your visit, allowing you to compete, practise and have fun together.

Something for Everyone

One of the great things about golf today is that there isn’t just one way to enjoy it. You might be a regular golfer who enjoys playing the traditional course, a beginner taking your first steps on the Par 3 Course, or someone looking for a fun day out at Jurassic Creek Adventure Golf.

For those wanting to improve, the 3 Hammers Academy offers professional golf lessons, while the driving range provides somewhere to practise your swing and experiment with different clubs. There’s no right or wrong way to enjoy golf.

Golf Is Bringing People Together

Golf is also a great way to spend time with people of different ages and abilities. Experienced golfers can play alongside beginners, parents can introduce their children to the sport, and friends can enjoy a competitive game without everyone needing to be at the same skill level.

That’s part of what makes golf such a social sport. You can take it as seriously as you want to.

The Traditional Game Still Has Its Place

The growing social side of golf doesn’t mean traditional golf is disappearing. There’s still something special about spending a day on a golf course, playing your way around the holes and enjoying the challenge of trying to beat your previous score.

For many golfers, that’s what keeps them coming back. The difference is that today there are more opportunities to enjoy the game alongside the traditional course experience.

Make Golf Your Next Social Day Out

Whether you’re playing a round on the course, practising at the driving range, taking on the Par 3 Course or enjoying Jurassic Creek Adventure Golf, golf can be whatever you want it to be.

At 3 Hammers, you can enjoy the traditional side of the game while also discovering new and more social ways to play, practise and spend time together. So grab your friends, bring your clubs and make your next visit about more than just the score.

What Is a Par 3 Golf Course? (And Who Should Play One?)

If you’re new to golf, you may have heard the term “Par 3 course” but aren’t sure what it means. Simply put, a Par 3 golf course is made up of shorter holes, each designed to be completed in three shots by a skilled golfer.

Because the holes are shorter than those on a traditional golf course, Par 3 courses are less intimidating and offer a fun, relaxed way to learn the game or improve your skills.

Who Is a Par 3 Course For?

►Beginners

A Par 3 course is the perfect place to start your golfing journey. The shorter holes help you build confidence while learning the basics, including scoring, course etiquette and club selection.

Many golfers choose to practise at the driving range first before putting their new skills to the test on a Par 3 course.

Families and Casual Golfers

Whether you’re introducing children to golf or looking for an enjoyable round with friends, a Par 3 course offers a more relaxed experience than a full-length course.

If you’ve recently enjoyed a visit to Jurassic Creek Adventure Golf and want to take the next step, playing a Par 3 course is a great way to experience golf on a course while keeping the game fun and approachable.

Experienced Golfers

Par 3 courses aren’t just for beginners. They’re also ideal for improving your short game, helping you practise your iron play, accuracy and putting, skills that can make a real difference on any golf course.

Discover the 3 Hammers Par 3 Course

Located near Wolverhampton, Stafford and Cannock, the 3 Hammers 15-hole Par 3 Course is perfect for golfers of all ages and abilities.

Many visitors begin with a session on our Driving Range before heading onto the course, while others choose to improve their confidence with lessons from the PGA Professionals at the 3 Hammers Academy.

Whether you’re picking up a golf club for the first time or looking to sharpen your short game, our friendly, well-maintained Par 3 course is the ideal place to play, practise and
enjoy golf.

Golf Scoring Explained for Beginners: A Quick Guide

Thinking about taking up golf? Whether you’ve never picked up a club before, have visited the driving range a few times, or enjoyed a round at Jurassic Creek Adventure Golf, understanding how scoring works is one of the first steps in learning the game.

The good news? Golf scoring is much simpler than it sounds. Once you understand a few key terms, you’ll be keeping score like a pro in no time.

What Is Par?

Par is the number of shots a golfer is expected to take to complete a hole.

Most golf holes are:

  • Par 3
  • Par 4
  • Par 5

For example, on a Par 3 hole, a golfer is aiming to get the ball into the hole in three shots.

Common Golf Scoring Terms

Eagle = two shots under par.

  • 1 shot on a Par 3 (a hole-in-one)
  • 2 shots on a Par 4
  • 3 shots on a Par 5

Birdie = One shot under par.

  • 2 shots on a Par 3
  • 3 shots on a Par 4

Par = Exactly the expected number of shots.

  • 3 shots on a Par 3
  • 4 shots on a Par 4

Bogey = One shot over par.

  • 4 shots on a Par 3
  • 5 shots on a Par 4

Double Bogey = Two shots over par.

  • 5 shots on a Par 3
  • 6 shots on a Par 4

How Do You Calculate Your Score?

Simply count every shot you take and add them together at the end of your round.

For example, if you play six Par 3 holes (Par 18) and take 24 shots in total, you would finish 6 shots over par, written as +6.

What’s a Good Score for a Beginner?

When you’re new to golf, don’t focus too much on your score. Instead, concentrate on:

  • Making solid contact with the ball
  • Learning the basics
  • Having fun
  • Building confidence

The scores will improve naturally as your skills develop.

Ready to Start Playing Golf?

A great place to begin is the 3 Hammers Driving Range, where you can practise your swing with unlimited balls and ball-tracking technology that shows exactly where your shots are going.

If you’d like some expert help, the PGA Professionals at the 3 Hammers Academy offer lessons for beginners of all ages and abilities.

Once you’re feeling confident, the 3 Hammers Par 3 Course is the perfect next step. It’s designed to help new golfers experience real golf in a fun and welcoming environment while putting their scoring knowledge into practice.
